What inspired you to found your startup?
The effects of mindfulness have long been proven scientifically, but in 2014 meditation still had a “hippie”, “esoteric” image – for many people it still has. Also there were no easy ways to start a mindfulness practice. Since we had both personally experienced what meditation can do for you, we decided that it was time to change that and create a modern app providing an easy mindfulness training based in science.
How do you define success for yourself and your company?
Personally, if I get up on a rainy Monday morning and I am looking forward to what is ahead of me, that could be called success. As a company, being successful is offering something meaningful to your customers while finding yourself on a steady growth path.
Is there anything you’d do differently if you could do it again?
As first time founders there are plenty of things we would have done differently, given the chance. Founding without a tech-guy is just one example. Luckily none of our mistakes have been lethal. So far. 😉
What problem does your product solve?
We are solving the need for an easy, in-depth mindfulness training that enables its users to better deal with stress and focers on their wellbeing.
Where do you see your company in 1/5/10 years?
1: Being live in 5 languages and having crossed the threshold of 1 Million people meditating with 7Mind.
5: Having 10m active users
10: Too far too tell
How are you different?
We offer an individualised, personal mindfulness training that grows with you and learns from you every day.
How often does your product/service show up in a user’s day or week?
Many users use the app every day for their daily mindfulness routine, others find the time to meditate 2-3 times a week.
Impact: how are you doing good and building a better future?
We are enabling our user to better cope with stress and enhance their wellbeing, making the world a more relaxed and conscious place one meditation at a time.
How has the startup scene in Berlin changed?
Since we have only been part of the Berlin startup scene since 2016, we can’t really tell. In this timeframe it hasn’t changed much, and we find it a very nice place to build a startup.
What are the pros and cons of launching your startup from Berlin?
Pros: You have access to an awesome network of start-ups sharing their experience – and to a lot of talented people from all over the world. Also the rent is still somewhat affordable compared to Munich, London or Paris. The whole city itself is still developing rapidly and not finished making it a the perfect place to start something.
Cons: Hard to find developers
Bonus Question: Anything else that we need to know about you?
7Mind was featured in “The Hundert Vol. 10 – Startups of Berlin“, October 2017.
