What inspired you to found your startup?
The story of 99chairs began when cofounders Julian Riedelsheimer and Frank Stegert took a look at a friend’s apartment and realized a need for stylish interior design without the hassle of trawling around large furniture stores all weekend.
How do you define success for yourself and your company?
The happy customer comes always first. So if we are able to make every customer with our service as happy that he/she would basically go crazy if he/she wouldn’t be able to use 99chairs anymore. On the other side we want our designers to be proud of what they create for the customers. The combination of both is the most imaginable highest high to us.
Is there anything you’d do differently if you could do it again?
When we have started 99chairs we were of course very limited in our resources. There was a time when we hired more interns that full time employees. When we look back, we see the huge value in full time employees who shape, understand and educate the values and culture of the company to new employees, to keep a strong and positive spirit alive.
What problem does your product solve?
We make interior design accessible and affordable to everyone. And bring the easiest way to furnish your office or home on the market
Where do you see your company in 1/5/10 years?
In 1 year across first countries in europe. In 5 years we have already digitalised the whole design process all over europe and other continents and in 10? Well, what else is there… Moon? Mars?
How are you different?
Customers get the best price for the best value. The design service is fully individualised and makes the customer save time. You literally get your perfect design match in the shortest amount of time, aligned to your budget from an professional interior designer – along with a project manager who handles the ordering and assembly services for you.
How often does your product/service show up in a user’s day or week?
Since furnishing your office and home is quit a big of a deal, our service is nothing you use on a daily or weekly basis. The quality of the results is very high. Customers come mostly back to us when they get a bigger office or if they need some adjustments or get a new apartment.
Impact: how are you doing good and building a better future?
As we understand how the design of spaces affect on people’s feelings, we want to bring the best out of everyone with how we create for example their office. We want our clients to work more creative, to be more motivated and happy at work.

In Berlin you have as a young company everything you need to become successful and live a happy life. There are all VC’s and all startup’s around, so you have the best network just around the corner. If you need a good advice? Just meet for a coffee at the cafe around the corner. Also in Berlin is affordable for young entrepreneurs – living and loan wise.
Bonus Question: Anything else that we need to know about you?
How important is a good company culture to you?
At 99chairs we are like a family – even though we have grown in the past 6 months from 20 to 50 employees. We have a culture of respecting, supporting and also hanging out with each other besides regular work hours. A company culture where everyone feels like creating amazing things with friends has highest priority to us.
