Airbnb – Not going down without a fight

Airbnb’s presence in Berlin took a hard blow in 2014 when the city passed a law banning the unauthorized use of apartments for vacation rentals. The law has a two-year transitional period coming to an end in 2016. Airbnb spent much of 2015 pushing for reasonable legal frameworks and convincing the public that a ban violates fundamental property rights. However, the sharing economy is staying strong – in summer Airbnb has completed one of the biggest private funding rounds ever, raising $1.5 billion, this deal brings the company to a value of $25.5 billion.
