Founder and CEO of Yonderbound
Q: How do you relax?
A: Yoga and sunshine!
Embracing change and being resilient
As a founder and CEO of Yonderbound, I’ve learned that there is only one constant in the startup world: change. Neither the corporate world – nor my MBA at Columbia University – prepared me for the rollercoaster experience of managing a startup! From the beginning, I knew I had to be flexible and resilient, make no assumptions, and test and track everything (if we can’t measure it, it simply does not exist). But most importantly, I made sure to follow what I believed in.
The inspiration for creating Yonderbound stemmed from travelling – a true passion of mine. Working in travel is like working in the happiness industry. We’re at a point where there is abundance of information on the Internet, and this can be confusing for travelers. We decided to create a one-stop shop for unique trips, which ultimately makes travelers happier.
I know that Yonderbound will inspire others to support the wonders of travel with innovative initiatives. My next goal? Convincing my husband Roberto that we should get a dog.
Barbara Muckermann, 42, lives in Monaco and founded Yonderbound together with two co-founders in 2014. Before, she was CMO at MSC Cruises, SVP Marketing and Sales Europe of Silversea Cruises, and spearheaded marketing at other leading companies. Yonderbound is the world’s largest collection of bookable travel stories, having become a trusted marketplace where travelers can buy unique experiences directly from others’ stories.
