Sebastian Kellner (Co-Founder, CEO) and Niko Uphoff (Co-Founder, CTO) Maximilian Probst
What inspired you to found your startup?
Learning about creative disruption in economics class somehow sparked my interest in technology and innovation. While experiencing the early rise of WhatsApp and messaging during my studies in Copenhagen and San Francisco, my co-founder and I started to imagine the real mobile future for business.
How are you different? What is your unique value proposition?
Many companies talk about chatbots, NLP, AI, or messaging. We took a different route, developing an intelligent engine for business process design, automation, journey operations, and connectivity layers. Afterwards, we added conversational capabilities to deliver a holistic solution.
How do you define success for yourself and your company?
We started out to build relevant technology to empower customers, businesses and employees with a more intelligent and human-centric approach. If we can translate todays fragmented and desktop-driven digital experiences into more intelligent, consistent, and mobile ones, we will find success.
What do you want to achieve next year?
We grew rapidly this year, and became an international startup with our first activities in Silicon Valley. Growing together with our partners, customers, and new employees is priority number one, together with maintaining our spirit and fun.
Why do people want to work at your company?
I think we have proven that our teams have the means to grow together, personally and professionally. We managed to develop from a family into a competitive team, while still supporting each other strongly. Having fun while working with amazing people energizes us all.
What has been the most important milestone so far?
Besides winning some outstanding partners and customers, we are very proud of building a culture that allows our comparably young company to develop teams that operate on two continents with a nine-hour time difference.
Looking back at your whole development story — what makes you most proud?
We had a vision where mobile, messaging, and human behaviour could move toward. After sharing this with our team more than 3 years ago, we’ve now seen, on a daily basis, how the puzzle falls together. Being so united, and having so much ownership in our team, is amazing.
Where do you see your company in 5 years?
We set out with the goal to build relevant technology for humans in a mobile and intelligent world. In 5 years, we will have achieved our first major goal, andwe will have become the leading conversational operating platform.
What is your impression of launching a startup from your based city?
I think everybody who builds a digital technology company in Germany is aware of the fact that it is a longterm commitment that might require relocation. Technology is global. If one thinks locally, that will end the show at a certain point. Besides that, Hamburg is a beautiful city.
What is your impression of the german startup scene? Would you change anything?
We need more experienced talent in product development, UX, UI, software development. Berlin is doing better, but in general our ecosystem is not mature in comparison to Tel Aviv or Silicon Valley. We have to build bigger, spend more money on tech and think further into the future.
