Interview with Honeypot

What inspired you to found your startup?

We were inspired by developers who we hired in our previous companies. Many of them found it challenging to get basic information – like tech stack, salary, product – when searching for a job, without going through a convoluted interview process. We wanted to fix that, and to give more power to devs.

How are you different? What is your unique value proposition?

Since founding in Berlin in 2015, the company has been focused on building a strong developer community, through open source work, conferences, and a developer documentary series profiling the world’s most influential open source languages. Our uniqueness is our focus on the candidate.

How do you define success for yourself and your company?

Happy employees and happy users.

What do you want to achieve next year?

We want to invest heavily in our tech and product teams to provide an unbeatable user experience for the developers and other tech candidates using our platform.

Why do people want to work at your company?

Because of how close we are to our users. We have built a huge community both on and off the platform. That makes us a social, curious, and creative company.People here know that our work changes lives.

What has been the most important milestone so far?

We became fully profitable in 2017, with very small angel investment. We have since reached 1,000 developer signups per week.

Looking back at your whole development story — what makes you most proud?

The community we have built and the happiness people have found in jobs which they give a shit about.

Where do you see your company in 5 years?

The largest developer and tech community in the world.

What is your impression of launching a startup from your based city?

Berlin is a great city to launch a startup. There is a willingness to share ideas and to learn from each other, which isn’t always there in other cities.

What is your impression of the german startup scene? Would you change anything?

More risk-taking and more confidence to look past the obvious
