EyeEm – Peter Thiel backs EyeEm’s smartphone photography mission

EyeEm, a platform for sourcing and licensing authentic smartphone photography, raised $18 million to further expand its photo marketplace. New York-based Valar Ventures, PayPal co-founder and early Facebook investor Peter Thiel’s venture capital firm, led the round. EyeEm CEO and Founder Florian Meissner says his company’s mission is to index every photo in the world, and to give everyone with a smartphone access to the marketplace. Valar partner Andrew McCormack told TechCrunch that the team’s passion drew the firm’s attention and led them to invest.
