Interview with AVA

What inspired you to found your startup?

After experiencing a sudden and tragic incident involving many deaths and injuries, we discovered that this incident could have been prevented by monitoring and contextualizing already-existing data sources in real-time. We knew right away that this could improve the lives of billions of people.

How are you different? What is your unique value proposition?

AVA’s artificial intelligence is not just monitoring a practically indefinite amount of data sources, but is contextualizing it at its deepest levels. This allows us to detect “fake news,” and to compute individual risk scores for different use cases and applications.

How do you define success for yourself and your company?

One major factor is the timespan between an incident happening and AVA detecting, contextualizing, and understanding it. In some categories, we have been able to decrease this timespan to below zero. This means we are not just operating in real-time, but we have reached predictive capabilities.

What do you want to achieve next year?

AVA faces heavy global traction, with demand continuing to outpace our organizational capacity by orders of magnitude. Therefore, we are shifting our focus towards effective global scaling. Closing the upcoming financing round with ambitious partners is probably the most crucial step in this regard.

Why do people want to work at your company?

AVA does not have to construct meaning. We improve and protect cities, businesses, families, and the lives of billions of people, all on both a local and global scale. Concrete and practical, AVA is unapologetic, ambitious, and is solving real-world problems with breakthrough technology and creativity.

What has been the most important milestone so far?

In early 2017, during a beta-test in London, AVA registered a terror attack so precisely and quickly that we ended up with a time advantage of almost four minutes as compared to traditional procedures.

Looking back at your whole development story — what makes you most proud?

We are proud of the people who are building and creating AVA with us. That includes our teams in Berlin and Novi Sad, our customers, partners, advisors, and investors. It is a privilege to share this journey with such wonderful people, who are hungry for success and eager for making an impact globally.

Where do you see your company in 5 years?

AVA will be the world’s leading information and prediction platform for public safety, security, and physical risk. A “central nervous system” for the planet, will be embedded in millions of services, products, and applications, serving individuals, businesses, cities, societies, and nations.

What is your impression of launching a startup from your based city?

We are building one of the most exciting companies in the world, from one of the most exciting places in the world. Whatever you may want, you can organize it from Berlin, provided you are determined and focused.

What is your impression of the german startup scene? Would you change anything?

We have access to global markets, we can travel freely, and our values and virtues are respected everywhere. Most challenges can be tackled and solved with an entrepreneurial mindset. One area
