Funding: €6.3M
Stage: Seed

inveox has developed an automation system for histopathology labs, increasing operational efficiency and significantly improving patient safety by preventing potential misdiagnoses due to sample mishandling (1-15% irregularities happen currently). The system consists of 3 components: a data and communication platform, proprietary biopsy containers, and an automation machine for sample entry. This system provides the basis for reliable fast cancer diagnosis. Website
Highlight of the year: Having built the team and a customer-ready product.

Interview with inveox

What inspired you to found your startup?

People. Every year, thousands of patients are misdiagnosed and/or mistreated due to false positive or negative lab diagnoses. We believe each one of those men, women, and children is one too many. Our purpose, to make cancer diagnoses fast, safe, and reliable, is what gets us out of bed every morning.

How are you different? What is your unique value proposition?

inveox solves the single biggest global problem and risk in histopathology. In 2018, we’re presenting the world’s first automation system for sample entry and are holding the patent for it. The only direct alternative is a group of lab technicians with pens.

How do you define success for yourself and your company?

Success, for us, is reaching a vision fueled by values. We go after ours consistently — be it linearly or via detours — whatever may come. We call this elastic perseverance, and our team naturally runs the extra mile for a goal worth pursuing.

What do you want to achieve next year?

Our immediate focus is the market entry of our automation system into Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We are also calibrating for scaling and taking steps towards further internationalization.

Why do people want to work at your company?

We care for the personal and professional growth of our teammates and support them in achieving their goals through a balanced work-life harmony. In a strongly entrepreneurial environment, our team can meet renowned industry experts and benefit from our international network.

What has been the most important milestone so far?

After closing our seed investment In 2017, we immediately expanded our engineering team, enhanced product development, and started prototyping. Just a few months later, we had a fully operational pre-series of our system, recognition within the industry, and customers lining up for purchase.

Looking back at your whole development story — what makes you most proud?

We are grateful for all the trust we’ve received from our amazing investors, mentors, and customers who supported and encouraged us to pursue our vision for the future of healthcare. We’re proud of our great team of remarkable interdisciplinary specialists who make this vision reality.

Where do you see your company in 5 years?

The world’s leading provider of lab automation. Why? A reliable diagnosis is the basis for good therapy. Our vision is to be a digitized, fully automated lab, and a platform on which all relevant information is collected and connected, forming the basis for reliable, holistic cancer diagnoses in real time

What is your impression of launching a startup from your based city?

The research- and production-intensive high-tech sectors are regarded as the driving force of economic growth. In and around Munich, we’re leveraging an ideal environment with outstanding resources and possibilities to shape the future of MedTech.

What is your impression of the german startup scene? Would you change anything?

We found a huge variety of opportunities to learn, grow and thrive in the German startup ecosystem: Advantageous location, access to stunning talents and a plethora of regional, national and European programmes – both governmental and corporate – to apply for and potentially help you along the way
