IOX LAB helps leading companies quickly turn IoT concepts into prototypes. The start-up uses IoT technologies such as sensors, motors, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence. Their team covers the full stack of IoT from industrial designers to software and hardware developers.

Highlight of the year: Winning first place in the 2017 NRW Founder’s Prize.

Interview with IOX

What inspired you to found your startup?

In the field of IT, a lot of new ideas get lost in powerpoint presentations instead of being implemented. We realized that prototypes help to explain to investors what’s behind an idea. That is why we founded IOX.

How are you different? What is your unique value proposition?

We create prototypes exceptionally fast. We’ve developed a digitization kit, and we offer the complete development process from one source. Our team includes software and hardware developers, engineers, industrial designers, and platform architects.

How do you define success for yourself and your company?

We are passionate about the company’s goal: to pioneer a product that will truly change the world. Success means the creation of customer-centric solutions.

What do you want to achieve next year?

We want to further expand the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in our products. We also want to put a stronger focus on AI consulting.

Why do people want to work at your company?

IOX is part of one of the fastest-growing high-tech industries: The Internet of Things. We give everyone a platform to do what they do best – but also provide room for personal growth. Projects are executed together. However, they work independently and can also work from their home offices.

What has been the most important milestone so far?

The development of our first product was a crucial step for us. Another important milestone was the establishment of a strong sales team.

Looking back at your whole development story — what makes you most proud?

The IOX team makes us most proud. They are working on the innovation and development of smart products every day. Thanks to their pioneering spirit, we are able to develop innovations.

Where do you see your company in 5 years?

We want to keep exploring the versatility of new technologies and want to convince more companies of the opportunities of the Internet of Things. Several billion smart devices will be online in the near future. Narrowband IoT as wireless network is one important solution.

What is your impression of launching a startup from your based city?

Düsseldorf is a start-up city with open-minded business professionals and a good technology sector network. There are a lot of companies that have to find new, innovative approaches. Our start-up is based in the coworking space called Startplatz, where we have an important community.

What is your impression of the german startup scene? Would you change anything?

The forms of enterprise are too rigid and have to be more dynamic. That makes it difficult for founders with new concepts.

IOX was featured in “The Hundert Vol. 10 – Startups of Germany“, November 2018.
