Interview with Konetik

What inspired you to found your startup?

When we founded Konetik we wanted to help customers get the most out of their vehicles and optimising utilization with data driven insights. Our aim was to leverage IoT and data capturing capabilities to provide insights towards a safer, smarter and more efficient mobility. As we are e-mobility enthousiasts ourselves, after having our telematics platform, we shifted our focus integrate and manage electric vehicles for company fleets

How do you define success for yourself and your company?

Our motto: Doing well, by doing good. Having an impact beside building up a profitable, sustainable company is key. We aim to reduce emission and give the best possible mobility experience for our clients and their employees. Helping to reduce emission, increase safety and increase efficiency, those are the goals that keep us motivated.

Is there anything you’d do differently if you could do it again?

Building a company needs a continuous improvement and reflection from the founders. Of course there were many failures, but those are also part of the journey, such as successes. We as leaders/managers grow together with the company, this is how it works.

What problem does your product solve?

Konetik helps companies to integrate electric vehicles into their fleets and managing the e-fleet to increase efficiency and enhance driver experience. We also partnering with other service provider interested in e-mobility data and insights.

Where do you see your company in 1/5/10 years?

Konetik wants to be the leading e-mobility management platform integrating fleets and service providers within 5 years. Our aim is to partner with e-mobility pioneers, launch pilots to learn about all the challenges that fleet operators are struggling with

How are you different?

Konetik is combining telematics with energy management data driven insights. We have a full-stack technical team which is capable to capture the data directly from the vehicles and turn them into meaningful information to help e-mobility adoption. Konetik has special algorithms developed in house to optimise, organise e-mobility in the most efficient way.

How often does your product/service show up in a user’s day or week?

Our customers use our cloud platform on a daily basis to follow insights, statistics, do triplog management or searching for public charging stations.

Impact: how are you doing good and building a better future?

As our mission is to see more electric cars around us, we leverage the most advanced telematics, data and energy management technologies to facilitate the speed of the EV adoption and help companies to get the fear out of the process completely. We eliminate the fears caused by range anxiety, lack of access to public charging infrastructure etc.

How has the startup scene in Berlin changed?

We have been working in the Berlin based startup scene for 2 years now, so we have only limited historical experience, but it is visible that more and more successful founders turn to be angel investor, mentor and helping the next generation of entrepreneurs, which is a solid basis of a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem. The expectation/mental gap between startups and corporates is also disappearing step-by-step which was one of the success factor behind Silicon Valley for instance.

What are the pros and cons of launching your startup from Berlin?

There is a great talent pool in Berlin which is great. We also got a lot of support from mentors experienced in the automotive scene. Access to corporates is really helpful. Regarding the difficulties, business administration takes a lot of time and effort while managing a German company. Early stage technology risk aversion from the investors, which is kind of embedded in the German culture is something which could be a barrier of the development in between the post-accelerator and seed phase.
