Lakestar – Injecting more money in U.S. and European startups

In what is part of a spike in fresh VC funds this past year, Europe’s Lakestar will be pumping more cash into big ideas with its new $350 million fund. Swiss founder Klaus Hommels, an early investor in Skype, Spotify and Facebook, announced that the money will go primarily toward startups in early stages across a wide range of sectors. Since the venture capital firm has a solid presence in both the U.S. and Europe, and also just opened an office in Berlin, we will likely see strengthened connections between the two regions. As part of the announcement of the fund, Hommels mentioned the booming interest in contributing investments to the European technology market. He said, “We were very pleased to have received interest in Lakestar II from many prominent investors – in fact, the fund was significantly oversubscribed.” Participants in the Lakestar II fund included Axel Springer SE and ProSiebenSat.1 Media.
