What inspired you to found your startup?
We created Noisli because we needed to solve our own problem. Back then we were freelancing and frequently working from home where it was difficult to motivate ourselves. Also the environment was often too quiet and we knew that some background noise can help you focus and stop your mind from wandering around.
How do you define success for yourself and your company?
Success for ourselves is when you’re working on something that brings value to people, when you know that what you’re doing every day is valuable. Success for us as a company is that people genuinely use our product because they find it useful.
Is there anything you’d do differently if you could do it again?
No. We always make decisions based on what we truly believe in and what we’re comfortable with. Even if something might not turn out as we’ve expected or hoped for, we know that we followed our values and did our best. There have been a lot of things we did for the first time but everything helped us learn and grow.
What problem does your product solve?
Sound related issues are often underestimated or even ignored in our work and school environments and how they can negatively impact our productivity. Noisli allows you to create a custom sound environment that helps people to find calm and focus in environments where it is either too quiet or too loud. When it is too quiet, every spike in noise will easily bring you out of concentration, while in environments with too much noise, it’s almost impossible to even enter a state of focus.
Where do you see your company in 1/5/10 years?
We are already working on some new features which will enhance the product experience. In the tech field things change really fast, and we think it’s important to continuously adapt the service to the needs of our users.
How are you different?
Having a design background and having been our first “users” we are very much focused on high quality and care for details, aiming at maximising the experience for our users. Since the beginning we are building a strong relationship with our users learning who they are and what they need. It is very important to be able to see your product through the eyes of your users so to be able to provide the best service they need.
How often does your product/service show up in a user’s day or week?
The main usage of Noisli is on a daily basis during workdays, also 8 hours straight. A lot of people use Noisli also after work to relax and at night to help them fall asleep.
Impact: how are you doing good and building a better future?
There are many situations where people need to concentrate whether at work or while studying. We feel that with our service we are not just enabling people to find their focus and be more efficient but also reduce stress, prevent burnouts and ultimately help them to work better.
How has the startup scene in Berlin changed?
Not sure if we’ve been here long enough to see changes. But we see that the startup scene is very vibrant and it’s great to see big players joining in and collaborating with startups.
What are the pros and cons of launching your startup from Berlin?
There are no cons. Today you can launch your startup from everywhere, and Berlin is a great place to be at the moment.
