Oliver Samwer – Topping WIRED’s list of Most Influential Europeans

Rocket Internet CEO Oliver Samwer seemingly has many missions, but perhaps the most notable is to provide a platform that can build world-changing businesses. He is certainly succeeding, having built over 30 companies that employ more than 33,000 people across 110 countries. It is no wonder that he made first place in WIRED’s Top 100 list of most influential Europeans. For German entrepreneurs, Samwer is an influential figure who has come a long way since his business beginnings. He told WIRED, “For Rocket, being global is the big prize…innovation never stops…we must win.”

About Oliver Samwer Oliver Samwer is probably one of most polarizing heads the German startup scene has to offer. He received his first big check when he and his two brothers Marc and Alexander sold their company company Alando to eBay in 1999. Since 2006, the Samwer brothers are investing in startups with the Global Founders Fund (previously European Founders Fund) and in 2007 started building own companies with Rocket Internet – including famous names such as Zalando, Home24 or eDarling. In summer of 2014 Rocket Internet was renamed into a corporation and appointed Oliver Samwer as Chief Executive Officer. Read more
